I had a doctor's appointment this morning that I had been dreading since I got pregnant - the torture of drinking 50 grams of glucose before getting pricked for the test for gestational diabetes. In all the books I've read, I understood the glucose cocktail to be horrifying to get down. Admittedly, it wasn't as bad as I suspected, but certainly not a fun experience, nonetheless. It tasted a bit like that nasty Tang drink, of old. At any rate, the prick test results were immediate. I scored a 90 on a scale of up to 140, so the doc said I don't even come close to having gestational diabetes. Woohoo! He also says I'm not anemic. All good news. To date, I've gained 15 pounds, which is in the "normal" realm, but it sure feels abnormal to me! I heard the baby's heartbeat this morning - and he's been quite the kicker in the last couple of weeks. All is well with mom and baby.
Officially in my third trimester, I'm going back to that 'always tired' stage. I went to read a book last night around 7pm and I'm pretty sure I got about 3 pages in when I fell asleep and didn't get up until 8am this morning. Nice!!!
Of course, I have the best husband in the world. Whether I'm napping, propped up on the couch with 4 pillows, or inhaling ice cream, he just smiles and nods. He has been incredibly supportive and loving during my "growth" period! :-)

You're so precious Melissa! You are going to be the best mother! I am so excited for you.
How did the results go? Is this a test that all preggo's have to take or just if they are concerned about you having gestational diabetes? The nasty tang drink never realy did much for me so I can only imagine how much fun this was for you - ha!
The test includes drinking the "tang"/glucose, getting pricked in the finger exactly an hour later, and the doctor giving you the results within five minutes. This test is given to all pregnant woman around 28 weeks, since developing diabetes can be common in pregnant women - and once the baby comes, the woman usually no longer has diabetes. It's funny all the wonderful "gifts" that come with being pregnant - certainly, God didn't intend for this to be easy - but then, how can it be... you are making a HUMAN BEING all on your own!!! Don't worry though, if the "tang" cocktail is all you have to worry about throwing up during your pregnancy, you're doing good! :-)
