Hey Doc, Trick or Treat!

Asa went to the doctor today for his 12-month check up. He went as a skeleton to remind the pediatrician of her days in medical school! He was hoping it would mean no shots, since he knows those go straight into the muscle (or maybe in his case, fat), but that trick didn't work on the doc. Unfortunately, the boy got 4 shots, including his H1N1 vaccination. Asa really does well with shots - and by well, I mean he gets over it pretty quickly, but this round of shots was tough to handle. I think the older he gets, the worse shots are. Worse on his parents, too, because we hate to see our little man in pain.

On to the treats - we know you want to know what his stats were. Asa is up 2 inches in height from his 9-month check up to 30in tall, keeping him in the 50th percentile in height. What he lacks in height, the boy makes up for in width... I mean, weight. :-) Asa jumped up 5lbs from his last visit to 25lbs 12oz, which also jumps him from being in the 25th percentile to the 75th+++ percentile. The doc said he's banging on the door of the 90th percentile, but she didn't 'officially' mark him down as such on his chart. I told her that he thanks her for being sensitive to his round belly. Finally, a percentile that remains tried and true for Asa is the 90th percentile in head circumference. His head is 19in round - just about as big as the belly!

While Asa is now officially a toddler, the doc assures us that the multitude of changes we've seen over the past year will continue into the upcoming year. Mobility and speech being the top two we can anticipate! I can't tell you enough how much I can't WAIT to hear Asa speak. I already know his voice is going to melt Mommy and Daddy's heart because his smile can do that in 2.2 seconds. Of course, we'll keep you posted on all the new and fun experiences to come.
