A Time of New Beginnings

Written by Melissa

This month brings so many new beginnings...

Asa started Kindergarten today! It was a day of great anticipation - shown super early as he awoke at 2:00 a.m. stating he just couldn't sleep he was so excited. The whole house then arose (again) at 7:00 a.m. for the whirlwind that will now become our morning routine (after today, I'm thinking we need an earlier wake up time, but we'll have to skip the 2:00 a.m. interruption). We managed to make the 3-block trek up to Ace's new school, the Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School, just in the knick of time (one of us was running up the hill with a week's worth of snacks for the class in tow --- I won't mention names, but HE needed a 15 minute shower to start his day). It was a great first morning and I can't wait to hear all the fun things Asa experienced today.

Ariana turns two this month! It's hard to believe, but she is such a big girl now - crawling, trying to walk on her own (enjoying the assistance of Mom and Dad mostly, but taking a few opportunities to show off her skills all alone), signing very well to communicate her wants and needs, and starting the grueling process of potty training (not sure who that will be harder on - Ari or Heather!). Ariana has a birthday party coming up at Lake Acworth and all of her many family members will be there to celebrate the completion of her second year and the beginning of her third. Every birthday I realize how much love that not only she gives and receives, but that she is the SOURCE of... how many of us are blessed to know and care for her, but also to know and care for each other as a result of her very special life. Blessings abound, without a doubt.

Axel is set to begin his journey in the big world, too. As I plan to return to work in the next few weeks, he will attend a neighborhood nursery called The Nest. That will happen sooner than I'd like (I enjoy watching his fat rolls get fatter), but also right on time. We all look forward to returning to a daily routine - after a crazy summer that included birth, maternity leave, and camp galore (not to mention trips to the candy store and ice cream shop on a nightly basis!). It will be nice to settle back into normalcy and get to know what life will be like with the 7th member of our team.

Time certainly flies and there will surely be many more new beginnings in our future. I'm glad to have this forum to archive these memories for the kids.
